One Little Thing

I always intend to type updates/facts/tidbits about the kids that I want to remember and for them to know about themselves as kids.  It’s something that I personally like to read back on.  But then I sit down and start typing.  Maddox at 5 ½…and feel like I need to capture every single thing about him at that age and word it and organize it correctly.  And then if I do get it typed up I feel like I need to put pictures with everything and I never get around to that.  It’s ridiculous really.  I typed some up recently and was going to do three separate posts for each and then decided to put them all in one and it was extremely long so I started editing it and haven’t even started adding pictures and I’ve been working on these posts for months.  The kids have already changed and moved on from the things they were doing when I started typing the posts to begin with.  Happens all the time so then I just delete them, like I did this time.

So clearly I need to change my approach and my standards for these posts.  Instead of making it a whole big thing (and then never finishing it), I’m going to type “one little thing” about each kid every once in a while. Their personalities are so different and they change so quickly yet always stay the same.  It’s fascinating really.

Anyways. One little thing.  The first thing that comes to my mind about them right now.

Maddox.  5 ½.  Creative.  He’s been so creative and busy with his “creations” lately, usually drawings.  It surprised me when he began doing this in the last year.  He never wanted to color when he was younger and then in the spring he decided it is all he wants to do.  He colors all day long every single day.  He rarely uses coloring books, he prefers to draw whatever is on his mind at the given time.  We will start watching a movie and then he will disappear for 30 minutes and come back with a picture of the movie.  He definitely thinks outside of the box, something that I could learn from.  He asked me to color a forest with him and he grabbed purple, orange, and red markers.  I asked where the green and brown were.  We NEED green and brown markers to make trees right?  “Mom…it’s Fall…the leaves are orange and red and if you mix purple and orange you will get brown.”  Touché.  He’s usually busy drawing animals/creatures or characters from the shows he watches.  And cutting them out...our island is always covered in paper and art.

Grady. 3 almost 4 which basically makes him 5 (according to him).  Cuddly.  Grady is our tender little cuddler and always has been.  At night we have to cuddle for a few minutes, then kiss, then I need to kiss him on the cheek, then the other cheek, then we need to hug, then squeeze (big hug), then noggin.  Then he’s good to go for the night….usually…we sometimes get a little visit from him downstairs, “Mom, we forgot to squeeze!”  or "Mom, I didn't get enough cuddles!" J  And he really knows how to put on the sad puppy dog face when he is in trouble to work the adults.  I’ll admit that when he’s in trouble sometimes I get a little frustrated when he looks at me so sweet and says, “Cuddles?” but really it’s a good approach to life.  Forgive and forget.  Hug it out.  Right?  He’s been really cuddly with the baby lately too.  I can’t wait to see him with her when she’s born.  We've called him "Grady bug" since he was a little baby and I had no idea back then that it would fit him so well since he's such a cuddle bug.

Ada.  17 months (how did that happen?).  Wild.  Ada is a wild child.  Since November she’s been up and walking and she already was all over the place BEFORE that new skill.  She climbs on everything.  She runs around the house.  She wrestles with her brothers.  She screams.  She talks a lot.  She sings and dances.  There is just always something going on with her.  Maddox and Grady are always laughing at her saying, “Ada’s such a crazy girl!”  And oh boy does she love to get people laughing.  One of her new favorite things is wiggling her legs around like crazy when I’m trying to get her socks on and waving her arms around like crazy when I’m trying to get her gloves on.  And giggling at me hysterically while doing that.  Then I get in her carseat and she takes her hat, gloves, shoes, and socks off and throws them all over the floor so we get to start all over again.  She loves doing things she shouldn't do too.  She’s lucky she’s cute and gives such great hugs.

Ah, feels good to get that done.  Much easier.
